Improv for PR Professionals

Being an undergraduate college student, I’ve been exposed to and able to join a number of clubs and organizations throughout my academic career.  One type of club I’m seriously considering joining is an improvisation group.  From what I’ve heard from friends and instructors (as well as in the attached article) improvisation is an effective way to develop a confident attitude and create a positive work atmosphere.

“Throwing out the script” and improvising seems to appear more genuine to people and comes off as more casual and comfortable.

Practice with improvisation appears to be a way in which people can improve their communication skills and even likeability.

Improv helps individuals develop listening skills, public speaking skills, the ability to sympathize, and the ability to think on one’s feet. These skills are all vital tools in a PR professional’s toolkit, so why not practice improv?
